James Braunworth ’45

Jim Braunworth ’45

In 2007 Jim Braunworth ’45 reached out to Peddie to inquire about long-term financial contributions that could benefit himself and his beloved institution. After learning that Peddie can make fixed payments for his lifetime, he converted his charitable bequest into an 8% charitable gift annuity. Jim sees his recent philanthropy as beneficial to everyone involved.

"As I approached my 80th birthday, my desire was to help the school that helped me," he noted. "I compared my low-yielding dividends on various investments to the 8% rate offered by the gift annuity. It was clear right away that my transfer of funds now would mutually benefit both Peddie and me."

Now he also claimed an immediate charitable deduction and receives payments for life. Upon his death, he has entrusted Peddie to use the balance of his gift for unrestricted purposes. Jim served as a class gift planning captain and a loyal supporter of The Peddie Fund, which helps the school meet its current-use needs. He described his faithful participation to Peddie: "I'm a creature of habit, and once I do something that I like to do and that is worthwhile, I continue to do it."
